An important part of the WTAA is the promotion of excellence in education through the granting of scholarships to West Technical High School alumni and their descendants.  Alumni include students, faculty and staff members of West Tech. Since 1985, the WTAA has awarded over $225,000 to more than 225 students to help them with their continuing education.

The WTAA scholarship is a one time, non-renewable $1,000 award available to students, at whatever college level, who meet our criteria, and whose sponsor is a member of the West Tech Alumni Association, or be a student of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Cleveland school district students must submit their application through their high school’s guidance counselor’s office.

The applicant fills out and submits to the WTAA the completed application form and a 250 to 500 word personal essay describing their background, academic and career goals, objectives, and other experiences that have contributed to their personal development and future aspirations.  Letters of reference and transcripts are sent by the persons, high school or colleges/universities directly to the WTAA.

Applicants not being granted an award the first time can reapply for consideration the following year by completing the application process again, and by providing all the required and updated information for that school year by the published deadline of January 31 of each year.

Our informational check list and scholarship brochure list specific instructions on how to apply for a WTAA scholarship.  Applications are accepted from October 1 through January 31 of each year, and must include first semester grades that must be sent directly to the WTAA from the school.  You may click here to access the scholarship brochure, scholarship application, checklist, and privacy statement to print for your use.
